Art alive expo

                                                                     Art expo

Today Friday the 4th of December, we had a art expo. This evolves the school walking to others classes to view what they have been working on\making.

The first art we viewed was from team 4\year six's, Their art was about culture (for e.g Maori cook island, Tongan), It looked like they had to draw patterns that show case their culture in different ways. It was cool going through their building because there was lots of different patterns.

One of my favourite arts were in Creative space, This space is were we go to do animations and Extension. One of the reasons why i liked the art because their were some detailed pieces and because they looked hard to draw

When we were walking around the school looking at art pieces, I felt kinda bored, but kinda happy and excited in the same time, I felt bored because we had to stay in a line and walk slowly, but i was excited and happy, i got to look at art pieces with my friends.

My art, when i was drawing my art i put in Maori patterns to represent my Maori side, and the moari\Nz flag to show i'm a New Zealander(just in case people from other countries see it). My art contained Flax bushes and the Tui bird, because their Kiwiana items (Famous NZ items).

Painting starry night.

This week we learnt about vincent van gogh, Then we looked at stary night, We tried painting starry night using his teknic,Vincent van gogh Layers colours to create  texture with Short brush strokes.

                                                       Painting the sky

When we started painting starry night,  We used vincets teknic with short brush storkes to layer our diffrent shades of blue for the sky.  When painting the sky we saved spaces like the swirls and the stars for their correct colors. Stars= yellow, Swirls= White, Light Blue. When the blues were done, i moved onto the swirls and stars, the stars were easy, and the swirls were a little diffacult.

                                                    Painting the hills and Village

Using the same teknic i coverd the hills, BEcuase its dark the hills were dark blues, Then i moved onto the village this was also a dark blue but!.You would dip your brush in the paint, the into the water then slowly apply it over the village, Giving it a see through look, kinda like mist.

Tuvalu work shop

This morning we visited a Tuvalu workshop. In this workshop we obviously learnt about Tuvalu, the things we learnt about were, How to say our body pieces in Tuvalu and some traditional  pieces of dance equipment and also how they were made. Another thing we learnt was facts about Tuvalu,FACTS, Tuvalu is made up of 9-8 islands and is also the 4th smallest country in the world.

When morning tea passed we arrived back in the hall learning a new myth and legend, it was called Sena and Tinilau, It’s basically about a girl who wanted a special oil made out of special things. Then she went to sleep and it started raining heavily, until a flower came in and started singing trying to wake her up….Then we learnt the words to the song we were dancing too it, this was very fun i hope we can do it again.

Our maori special moment

Māori Language week celebrated at Oamaru Library - Waitaki District CouncilToday is our first day celebrating maori launguage week,To show our appreciation of this launguage our whole scholo will stop and sing a song form their class at 12pm. The reason we are doing this is becaue back in 1972 32,00 people signed the petition in order to keep Te Reo maori "no matter what language you speak you are allowed to celebrate it". The reason keeping your langage is important is because, if you stop speaking it then you slowly forget, then when it's time to pass it on you have forgoten. so learn your langauge and pass it on, also treasure it with all your heart.
Proof that we sang a song.

What T could do in a sad situation

T could talk with Jake and let all his emotions out, I think telling Jack would be the best thing to do because he is his best friend. Another way is maybe buying something to take his mind off it, like a game or sleep could help. T could go to a therapist or a police officer, these people could help you talk about your emotions and how to deal with them, they will also give you advice on what to do when you're in a sad situation.

I love my culture

I am maori,and i’m very proud.

I love being maori because foods like Boil up pork roast and more. But more importantly the traditions we have, Traditions like, saying a karakia, mihi and waiata. Keeping my culture is important to me because i, If u learn maori u can get a tattoo that tells a story, the curves in it tells other people were your from and your family name.

The benefits of being maori are, Loads of cousins, lots of food and best of all a beautiful family. (Every family is beautiful) Keeping your culture is important, because you can past stories down to your kids and far down generations. Haka, When you do a haka sometimes it’s to maintain dominance over each other EXAMPLE All Blacks they do a haka to try make the other team scared, and to let them know WHOS BOSS.

If your maori be proud and learn as much as you can because we need to past our language through generations.

Joseph Parker At Assembly :0

Duco Events :: Joseph ParkerToday we went to assembly to find Joseph Parker sitting up front. We had a normal assembly karakia, mihi, waiata then Mr Burt introduced us to him “well introduced him to us”. Then he said thanks for having me here and if you have a goal go for it you should always believe in yourself, also he said Nothing beats hard work then he said god bless have, a good day, Of course he said more but you want to hear the good parts. Then we went on with our normal assembly lunch box heroes, Duffy certificates and the rest.

Do protests work? My opinion!

Do you know what a protest is? A protest is a group of people that fight towards or against things they feel need to change in society. These protests can be held by meeting, marching or hikoi. NZ have been protesting for hundreds of years about issues from Pakeha taking Maori land and building houses, to the latest BLACK LIVES MATTER.
A protest is when a group of people meet up to fight for a cause. A protest can be held in many ways; meetings, marches or hikois. People march or hikoi about things that need to be done or to fight to get justice. there are many things people protest about is things that need to change in society or need to change in the word. Also a protest can be held by getting out in the world: driving in cars using a megaphone or even by staying home and putting up big sign outside your house.

A protest can be caused by things that a community doesn’t agree with. When a community needs something or they could be protesting for justice like BLACK LIVES MATTER, When someone gets hurt by a police officer or a high ranked person then that can infuriate people and that can cause a protest. It usually occurs after an event or change.

Protests really work! Protests work when you are calm and don’t disrespect police, even though a police officer has done something bad. When protesting you calmly chant something but lately BLACK LIVES MATTER in my opinion has gotten out of hand because it went from being calm to booting and looting each other. The reason why I think this is because they're using a Past person as an excuse to burn, steal, fight and injure people. That's not going to work but calmly chanting and marching will.

Example:Maori were living there life until Pakeha came and started marking out where they wanted to build houses, but when maori saw fences up on their land they protested about Pakeha taking their land and took all of it down. When pakeha saw this they called in soldiers to rip the village apart, Being maori they gave fresh bread to the soldiers and continued to be nice.
In conclusion, protests have been here for hundreds of years and there here to stay but that doesn't mean they do them the wrong way.
